Guided by faculty who know you by name, you’ll do fieldwork in real classrooms with educator mentors and you’ll graduate with a 10-year Virginia teaching license that transfers to 46 other states. At RMC, we’ll work together to shape a four-year roadmap into your personalized education career plan. From your first semester, you’ll be paired with expert faculty who guide you through the teacher preparation program. Fieldwork (observing, tutoring, and eventually teaching your own lessons) happens every single semester, not just at the end.
By senior year, you’ll complete 300 hours (13+ weeks) of student teaching, graduating with more classroom experience than nearly all education programs in the state. And if you want to bring a global perspective into your classroom, travel courses to places like Spain and France let you compare education systems firsthand.

Education majors at RMC choose from four pathways: elementary, secondary/arts/language, exceptional education, or education studies. That means your degree can match exactly the job you hope to get, with an average class size of just 12 students so you’re never a face in the crowd.
In the classroom, you’re never a face in the crowd with an average class size of 12. And outside of class, you’ll also join a close-knit cohort in groups like the Student Virginia Education Association. And you’ll graduate into a network of RMC alumni now teaching, leading schools as principals, and shaping education policy across the country.
