Just 15 minutes from Virginia’s General Assembly and a 90-minute train ride from Washington, D.C., you’ll have access to internships and other hands-on opportunities that prepare you for careers in law, diplomacy, political campaigns, public service, and more.

At RMC, you’ll choose a specialization in American politics, international relations, or foreign and comparative politics, and build a four-year path around it. Faculty mentor you through coursework, sure, but also original research projects, internship placements, and the work of identifying a job or grad school after RMC.
That combination prepares you for careers in law, public administration, diplomacy, election campaigns, social justice, and public service. Recent alumni work in legislative affairs, the Office of the Attorney General, the U.S. House of Representatives, FEMA, law, and international affairs.

Political science at RMC extends well beyond the classroom. Every year, classes spend time at the state capitol, and members of Congress and local politicians are regulars on RMC’s campus too. Plus, travel courses have taken students to Tokyo to compare legislatures with the U.S. Congress, and to New Hampshire to work directly on a presidential campaign during the first-in-the-nation primary.
You’ll also find political science community in groups like Pi Sigma Alpha (the political science honor society), Young Democrats, and College Republicans. And alumni are always close at hand. Dozens are now working in Congress, state government, and international affairs, and opening their doors for RMC students every semester!
